Broletto 16, Milan

The complex at the corner of Via Broletto and Via Porrone, in the historic center of Milan, recently underwent a revitalization by the Quattroassociati studio. The project involved the restoration of the nineteenth-century building and the renovation of the 1960s structure, replacing the granite and klinker façade with an aluminum and glass structure to enhance interior brightness, while maintaining continuity with the historic structures.

Outdoor spaces have been reorganized: the courtyard on Via Broletto is now a garden, while the inner courtyard has been cleared of a parking garage, allowing the addition of a new building in line with the height of the existing structure. The complex, dedicated to offices and retail, offers a gross leasable area of 7,000 sqm across seven floors, fully leased to international companies.

The intervention adhered to Italian regulations and ASHRAE standards to achieve LEED-Platinum certification (Core & Shell). A groundwater-based air conditioning system was implemented, used for both heating and cooling, with high-efficiency installations to reduce energy consumption. Ventilation and internal emissions control are optimized according to LEED criteria, with air quality monitoring systems and advanced filtration.

The architectural design integrates a contemporary glass and aluminum façade with decorative elements echoing the complex’s historical character, illuminated to emphasize architectural details. The historic façade features framed windows, illuminated with specific lighting equipment. The Building Management System enables optimal control of installations, consumption, and maintenance. A rainwater collection system is dedicated to garden irrigation to reduce network water usage.
